Oregon State Council Scholarship
Scholarship History

The Oregon State Council Endowment was established by the Oregon State Council, April 1, 1988. The First scholarship was awarded in 1989.

The Oregon State Council Endowment was initiated by the “Gavels”, the Oregon State Council Past Presidents’ Association. This endowment has had an impressive growth over the years. It is now giving scholarships to Oregon students annually.

The members of the Oregon State Council have been long-time supporters of the ESA Foundation since its beginning. Barbara Skorney, an Oregon ESA member was the International Council President when the convention was held in St. Paul, Minnesota and the ESA Foundation was established.

Oregon members have been supportive by serving on the ESA Foundation Board of Directors. These ladies served several three-year elected terms on the Board of Directors for the ESA Foundation. Barbara Skorney served 1974-75, Hazel Knapp served 1978-1980 and Lynn Hughes served 2007-08 as Chairman of the ESA Foundation Board of Directors. Doris White, Helen Lapp, Claudia Hale, and Jeannette Rhodes have all served as members of the ESA Foundaton Board of Directors. Other Oregon members have stepped forward to serve on a committee or appointed position for the ESA Foundaton board. The Oregon State Council has always appointed a State Counselor to promote the work of the ESA Foundation. Oregon sisters, Ardyce Moore, Hazel Knapp, and Claudia Hale have been honored by the ESA Foundation with the most prestigious Dixie Palmer Lady Award for their dedication and support for ESA and the ESA Foundation.
